Before he pioneered the Hollywood sound, Erich Korngold was a wunderkind of the late Romantics.
This week, hear Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in a late gem by this Austrian-turned-American composer, the Violin Concerto with violin superstar Gil Shaham.
Then, the soloists of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra come to the fore for the Concerto for Orchestra by Jennifer Higdon. A celebrated collaboration, the ASO and Higdon clinched two Grammy® Awards for the Concerto in 2005. A Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Higdon is a founding member of the Atlanta School of Composers. To open the concert, Hannu Lintu conducts a concert-hall rarity by fellow Finn Jean Sibelius.
