Would You Stay in a Cob House? We Did & Here's What It Was Like


I'm coming to you from Roberts Creek on the coast of British Columbia where we're staying in a cob house. What is cob? Cob is a mixture of sand, clay, and straw. A cob house is made of cob, which is completely natural and non-toxic, and you can use it like plaster to mold and build any shape that you want. Let's take a tour!

The most remarkable things about cob are that it is mold resistant, fire resistant, earthquake resistant, termite resistant, and it's breathable.

Using cob is a natural, non-toxic way of living. In the wintertime, with your wood stove going, you can heat it from the inside, and the cob retains that heat and stays nice and toasty inside. We experienced that already and it was amazing.

Rain chain

In this cob house, there is a rain chain. Instead of using an eavestrough (rain gutter) to collect rainwater, you just hang a chain, and the rain naturally drips right down into your little pot, where you can collect it for later. Read more...
