The Day I Faced My Closet—and Found My Favorite Pair of Jeans


Friend, let me tell you a little story.

It started with a shoe. Just one. A sad, slightly scuffed flat peeking out from beneath a tangle of hangers, a stack of gift bags I might use someday, and what I thought was a sweater but turned out to be a reusable shopping bag filled with other reusable shopping bags.

I stood in front of that closet, sighed the deep sigh of someone who has too many Target impulse buys and not enough shelf space, and said the words we’ve all whispered at least once:

“I have nothing to wear.”

Except I did. I had so much to wear. So much, in fact, that I couldn’t find the things I actually loved. So I did what any reasonable woman in pajamas and mismatched socks would do.
