New home sales rose 1.5% in January from a month earlier but were below estimates as the prior month’s number was revised downward.
The report from the Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development estimated that homes were built at an annual rate of 661,000 in January – down from the original estimate of 664,000 for December which was lowered to 651,000.
