Mercedes-AMG’s New GT XX Concept Redefines Electric Performance With Over 1,300 HP

Mercedes-AMG officially unveiled the Concept GT XX today, giving the world its first look at a radical new electric performance car built on next-generation AMG electric architecture (AMG.EA). With more than 1,300 horsepower, science-fiction-like axial flux motors, and Formula 1-inspired battery technology, the new GT XX concept serves as both a physical concept car and a technology program that previews what's coming to future AMG electric vehicles (EVs). While it's not a production model just yet, the GT XX offers a glimpse at where AMG is heading when it comes to electric performance.

The four-door coupe concept combines serious hardware with advanced software, direct cooling systems, and fast-charging capabilities that push past the current limits of EV performance. Nearly every system, from the insane drivetrain to the minimalist motorsport-inspired cabin, was engineered from the ground up. Mercedes-AMG confirms that much of what is in the GT XX will be used in production EVs beginning in 2026, so enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to over the next couple of years. But for today, let's dive into this beast of a concept car.

Concept AMG GT XX Debuts With 1,341 HP And Formula 1-Inspired Tech

AMG GT XX Makes More Than 1,341 Horsepower. At the heart of the Concept GT XX is a trio of axial flux electric motors producing more than 1,341 horsepower, making it the most powerful concept ever developed by Mercedes-AMG. Two motors sit at the rear axle, each with its own gearbox and inverter, while the third powers the front wheels. This setup allows for a top speed north of 223 MPH, placing it among the fastest EVs in the world.

Mercedes packages the motors into two drive units, one up front and one at the rear, that are individually oil and water-cooled for sustained high output under heavy load. The front motor also features a disconnect unit that can automatically disengage to reduce drag under low-load conditions and improve efficiency. Improving efficiency in a car with this much power may seem pedantic, but we'll take what we can get. Read more...
