Australia’s third-biggest island (after Tasmania and Melville Island), Kangaroo Island is a natural paradise, brimming with native wildlife, remarkable rocks, and artisanal food and wine.
Kangaroo Island separated from the Australian mainland around 10, 000 years ago. It was known as Karta or ‘Isle of the Dead’ to mainland Aboriginal groups, likely because a creation being from the dreamtime, Ngurunderi, crossed to the island before travelling to the Milky Way.
