The reading was in line with expectations and the lowest level since March 14, 2020, when it stood at 256,000.
The report comes one day ahead of the monthly jobs report, for which economists are expecting 750,000 new jobs. For the last two months, the number of jobs created has exceeded 900,000 a month.
It comes as the delta variant rages in the U.S., forcing companies to delay planned reopenings of their offices. Many localities and private businesses also have instituted mask and vaccine requirements, which may be dampening economic activity. Read the full article here
