How to Make Cute DIY Wood Cornices / Valances


We recently got the living and dining room repainted and had to remove our old valances from the windows. They were plastic and shabby from years of use. So, my husband and I decided to embark on a DIY Cornice project to make these windows look more attractive. Follow along and see how we made them.

BEFORE Photo: This is what our window looked like before we did this DIY project. The hardware for the blind, while low profile, was not attractive at all. We had two standard windows, and two smaller windows we did as well. This image is a photo of our double window.

First, we ripped down the ten - 2-inch x 4-inch pieces of wood. These pieces would be the corner of the cornice to hold the molding in the front and side. And set them aside. The 4-inch pieces will hide behind the molding and will not be seen. Read more...
