Ford Recalls Super Duty Pickups, Issues 'Do Not Drive' Warning for Brakes That Can Suddenly Fail

  • Ford is recalling more than 2000 of its 2025 Super Duty pickup trucks and has issued a warning telling owners not to drive them until they can be fixed.
  • The issue is a brake booster pushrod's retaining spring, which could lead to sudden brake failure.
  • The recall includes F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks built this past spring.

Brake failure is a terrifying prospect in any vehicle—but it's even more terrifying when you're dealing with a heavy-duty pickup truck that can weigh north of four tons and tow twice that much to boot. But those are exactly the circumstances that have led Ford to recall thousands of examples of 2025 model year Super Duty pickup trucks, going so far as to issue a "Do Not Drive" warning for the vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall, officially submitted to NHTSA on June 13, covers 2345 vehicles, spanning the gamut of F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty models, all built between March 19 and May 4 of this year. The issue lies with the brake booster pushrod's retaining spring—or, rather, the lack thereof, as Ford says the affected vehicles were built without the component. As a result, the brake booster pushrod can separate from the brake pedal, leading to an unexpected loss of braking ability and as NHTSA's filing puts it, "a sudden loss of brake function increases the risk of a crash."

The fix is fairly simple: Ford dealerships will inspect the affected vehicles and repair the brake pedal assembly as needed, free of charge (as is required by federal law). Until then, the automaker is advising owners not to drive their trucks.

Ford says letters to owners should be sent out on June 18. If you own a 2025 F-series Super Duty and would like to know as soon as possible if you should or shouldn't drive your truck, you can call the carmaker's customer service line at 866-436-7332 and ask about recall 25C26. You can also enter your relevant information with NHTSA on the federal agency's online recall checker. Read more...
