Haven't you heard? There's a MotoGP race in Italy this weekend. They're racing at Mugello. According to Brembo analytics, MotoGP riders will slow from 182 to 52 mph into Turn 1, in just 4.7 seconds, as their carbon disc brakes reach temperatures as high as 932 degrees in just that first corner. But today Brembo—supplier of brake calipers, master cylinders, discs, pads, and fluid for motorsports teams in Formula 1, IMSA, WRC, NASCAR, and many others—announced they're peddling technology in a different wheeled sport. It's just introduced a new brake system for professional mountain biking.
Brembo's new mountain-bike-specific brake system will be used by Specialized Gravity Team, 11-time champions in men's downhill mountain biking. The bright-red Brembo parts will make this weekend's UCI Mountain Bike World Cup race in Val di Sole, Italy, their primordial event.
The kit includes a 9-mm master cylinder, four-piston front caliper, stainless-steel brake hoses, rotors, and an adjustable lever for ratio, reach, and free stroke. The entirely new system will be showcased during the Brembo Italian MotoGP race that coincides with the downhill event.
Late last year, Brembo acquired Swedish suspension maker Öhlins, a prominent sponsor and suspension choice of teams competing in downhill mountain bike professional racing. Öhlins is also a major suspension provider in many of the same corners of the motorsports world as Brembo brakes. Read more...
