Overview
The Escalade IQ is Cadillac's all-electric flagship SUV. Though it shares its name with the internal-combustion-powered top-dog Caddy, the Escalade IQ is mechanically unrelated, instead sharing its underpinnings with the GMC Hummer EV and Chevrolet Silverado EV. But like its non-EV namesake, the Escalade IQ is a full-size three-row SUV loaded with luxury and tech features. Where they differ most is in the IQ's dual-motor electric powertrain, which makes up to a whopping 750 horsepower and propels the massive SUV to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, according to Cadillac. Equally impressive is the IQ's range, which the automaker estimates at 460 miles (provided you're easy on the throttle).
Edmunds spotlight: The Escalade IQ's charging speeds
The Escalade IQ is equipped with one of the biggest lithium-battery packs on the market at 205 kWh. To help juice up its generously sized pack, the Caddy uses a high-voltage electric architecture capable of 800-volt DC fast charging. At those speeds, Cadillac says the Escalade IQ can recover up to 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. On a slower Level 2 charger, however, expect a full charge to take significantly longer.
Competitors to consider
The Escalade IQ joins the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Volvo EX90 and Rivian R1S in the all-electric full-size luxury SUV category, though the IQ is larger, more powerful and has a higher starting price than the others. The EQS might come closest to matching the Caddy in terms of luxury and range. In our tests, we saw more than 400 miles on a single charge. The EX90, meanwhile, offers less range, at up to 310 miles, but is stylish in a uniquely Swedish way. The Rivian provides up to 410 miles of range and is perhaps the most off-road-capable of the bunch.
Which ESCALADE IQ does Edmunds recommend?
Unless you need massaging seats and 24-inch wheels, the base Sport and Luxury trims should more than suffice, and with the smaller 22-inch wheels, they'll offer superior ride quality. Both come with numerous standard tech and convenience features, and while stepping up to the Premium versions does add a noticeable complement of amenities, the substantial price jump makes the base Escalade IQ trims seem like a better value.
